2019 Federal Election – Congratulations to Hamilton’s Five Elected Members of Parliament

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

On behalf of the residents of Ward 8, I’d like to officially congratulate Hamilton’s five Members of Parliament elected in Monday’s federal election!

For more details, please continue reading below.

Over the course of my duties as the Hamilton City Councillor for Ward 8, I have had the pleasure of many discussions with a number of our local federal MPs – in particular Scott Duvall Member of Parliament Hamilton Mountain, Filomena Tassi Member of Parliament for Hamilton West – Ancaster – Dundas and Matthew Green Member of Parliament Elect for Hamilton Centre.

MP Scott Duvall previously represented Ward 7 on the central mountain at Hamilton City Council, a portion of which I now represent as the Ward 8 Councillor. MP Duvall has always been very helpful in sharing his experience with City of Hamilton issues and I am very supportive of his long time work in Ottawa on behalf of pensioners.

MP Filomena Tassi and I have met at several events and funding announcements at Hamilton International Airport, Mohawk College and others where the federal government is a key partner. Hamilton is very fortunate to have such a hard working and effective MP, especially if she retains her role as a federal cabinet minister.

During his time on Hamilton City Council, Matthew Green had a reputation as an assertive advocate for good government and fierce advocate for social justice and community development. MP (Elect) Green and I have had a number of very helpful and informative conversations about pressing City issues and Hamilton Centre could not ask for a tougher representative in Ottawa.

Although I have had less personal contact with David Sweet Member of Parliament for Flamborough-Glanbrook or Bob Bratina Member of Parliament for Hamilton East – Stoney Creek I know that they are also strong representatives of Hamilton at the federal level.

Finally, I would like to sincerely congratulate all the candidates in this federal election for having the drive and ambition to run for office. Running for elected office takes a tremendous amount of time, hard work, money and personal sacrifice and our democracy could not function without candidates from all parties being willing to stand up for their communities as candidates.
