Accessible wheelchair swing set for Ward 8 park

This post, from March 24, has information on the new accessible swing slated for William Connell Park.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

Following the success and popularity of Hamilton’s first accessible swing at Gage Park, the City of Hamilton is purchasing two new accessible swings – one of which will be introduced in Ward 8.

For more details, please continue reading below…

The new swing in Ward 8, which will be found at William Connell Park (as well as one slated for Heritage Green Park in Upper Stoney Creek) will be the “We-Go-Swing”, manufactured by Landscape Structures. According to the Hamilton News, the swing is fully-inclusive which can be integrated into the existing playground area.

The wheelchair accessible swing is roughly 60 x 72 inches, and is designed to let children of all abilities play . There are handlebars that assist with moving the swing, while keeping users in place. The structure is available with one accessible bay and one bench seat, or two accessible bays.

The cost for the accessible swing, as well as installation at William Connell Park will be about $60,000. The recommendation will be voted on by councillors at their March 30 meeting.

“I’m hoping the public will be ready to enjoy the swings this summer,” Danko told the Hamilton News.

The annual operating costs for both swings will be about $3,000.
