Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,
One of the ways residents can enjoy the outdoors during winter time is to skate outdoors on your local rink. From first memories of skating as a family to impromptu shinny, the local rink offers plenty of joy for community members of all ages.
And for residents of Centremount, that rink has been found year after year at Bruce Park.
For more details, please continue reading below…
If you were not aware, volunteers are the ones who take the initiative to build, flood, and maintain outdoor ice surfaces found at most parks each winter. Community members volunteer their time and resources to ensure that others, young and old, can enjoy skating outdoors – which is especially needed this coming winter.
This year, to help ease the workload of the tireless volunteers keeping the rink in great shape for others; residents in the Centremount neighbourhood have taken it upon themselves to create a GoFundMe to raise funds for a snowblower to help with maintenance. Believe it or not, a heavy snowfall can take volunteers hours to clear.
With this snowblower, volunteers can clear the ice quicker to ensure that skating conditions are optimal, meaning better ice conditions for the community at large.
From the Centremount Neighbourhood Association, via their GoFundMe page:
Have you been fortunate enough to enjoy the skating rink at Bruce Park year after year?
Building that ice surface is no easy task. We have a couple of hardworking community members who volunteer hours of time and buckets of elbow grease to get the job done right.
They need our help!
Believe it or not, after large snowfalls they have been clearing the ice by hand with a snow shovel before flooding. This alone could take hours after a heavy fall.
If they had a snow blower, this task would be much easier and provide them more time and energy to work on building a great ice surface for us to enjoy.
Every dollar counts. Please donate today to help us raise enough money to buy a large snow blower for the crew.
We are so thankful that (at this point) rinks will be permitted to open through this pandemic. With your help, our rink can continue to be a source of fun family memories… this year more than ever.
Thank you in advance!
