City launching Sidewalk Snow Clearing Survey

This article, from August 10, contains details about the City’s launching of the Sidewalk Snow Clearing Survey.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

Although we are still dealing with the August heat, the City of Hamilton is looking forward to the snow and ice we will be dealing with in a few months time.

With sidewalk snow clearing a hot topic of debate during the latter stages of 2019 into early 2020, the City is seeking out resident feedback to help measure and better understand the needs and wishes of residents related to sidewalk snow clearing during the winter months.

Back in February, City Council asked for a staff report by August into the perceived benefits and challenges associated with taking the responsibility off the hands of private homeowners.

Sidewalk Snow Clearing: What’s at Stake?

Today, the City is inviting all residents to share their experiences when it comes to winter commuting.

From the City’s news release:

HAMILTON, ON – Beginning today, the City of Hamilton is launching its online Sidewalk Snow Clearing Survey to help measure and better understand the needs and wishes of residents related to sidewalk snow clearing during the winter months.

The City clears approximately 397km of snow from sidewalks and is currently exploring various opportunities to expand service levels across Hamilton. The City invites residents to share their feedback on potential service level changes to sidewalk snow removal, particularly related to inclusivity and accessibility.

Recommendations and feedback from residents will be presented to City Council; next steps will be determined in fall 2020 and beyond.
