City of Hamilton BIPOC study

This post, from April 10, has information on a study involving BIPOC business owners/entrepreneurs on how the City can be more representative and equitable moving forward.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

The City of Hamilton, in partnership with McMaster University and Redeemer University – through CityLab are undertaking a major effort to build Black, Indigenous and Persons of Colour (BIPOC) entrepreneurship programming in Hamilton.

Phase I of this project was carried out by Redeemer from September – December 2021 in which they aimed to quantify the number of BIPOC businesses and business associations in Hamilton as well as undertaking an understanding of BIPOC entrepreneurship programming best practices from across Canada.

Phase II by McMaster will take place from January – April 2022 and will see feature interviews with Hamilton BIPOC entrepreneurs/business association representatives to understand their entrepreneurial needs. Here’s where more awareness will help bring in more interviewees and thereby a richer data set.

At the end of the process, the City will take this information and look for possible new ways to make our economy more representative, inclusive and equitable through new BIPOC entrepreneurial programming and supports.
