Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,
After more than a year of the COVID19 pandemic, we know that it has been an extremely trying time for Ward 8 residents.
With the changing restrictions throughout the year and now with the ongoing focus on vaccinations, it has been difficult to keep track of the most recent rules and regulations.
However, there is some good news to share!
The City of Hamilton and our community healthcare partners have been steadily working towards vaccinating a significant portion of Hamilton residents, and a large part of that work is happening right here in Ward 8.

Hamilton’s COVID19 Vaccination Rate
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Ward 8 office has been doing our best to keep residents informed and up to date with the latest COVID19 information.
We know that there is a lot of concern about when vaccinations will be available and how quickly residents are able to get their turn. We also know that many residents have been frustrated with the challenge of booking their vaccination.
It feels like the pace is slow, but as of April 12th, 2021 nearly 140,000 Hamilton residents have already been vaccinated!
You can check the most recent Hamilton vaccination rates yourself here.
There are roughly 500,000 people in the City of Hamilton to be vaccinated. This means that right now almost 25% of everyone in Hamilton that needs a vaccine has already received at least one dose.
Hamilton Mass Vaccination Clinic In Ward 8
Over 31,000 of the nearly 140,000 COVID19 vaccinations that have been administered so far have been provided right here in Ward 8 at the St. Joseph’s Healthcare West 5th Campus (West 5th and Fennell).
On behalf of the residents of Ward 8, I would like to offer a sincere thank-you to our Hamilton Public Health staff, St. Joseph’s Healthcare and our community partners and especially the frontline healthcare workers who have been at the vanguard of Hamilton’s COVID19 efforts for more than a year.
If you haven’t yet, you can check your COVID19 vaccine eligibility and book your shot here.
IMPORTANT – For Ward 8 residents who live on or west of Upper James and north of Stone Church in the Southam, Bonnington, Buchanan, Rolston, Yeoville, Gourley and Kernigan neighbourhoods with postal code L9C – you are eligible for advance vaccination if you are 50 years of age or older.
We’re Almost There!
There is no question that this has been a very long and difficult year.
From a personal perspective, it has been very tough to see Ward 8 residents directly impacted by COVID – residents who have had their health irrecoverably impacted, who have lost loved ones, businesses struggling to survive, layoffs and economic uncertainty and families struggling to balance working from home with remote learning.
However, we’re almost there. Within a few months, hopefully we will all be vaccinated. Until then, we can’t become complacent. We can’t let our guard down. We just have to continue doing what we’ve been doing, be patient and try to remember to be kind.
