Hamilton Police say that the man was stabbed in an early morning “melee” at a plaza located at 310 Limeridge Rd. W. in Ward 8. The plaza is home to local small businesses and the Hamilton Community Food Centre.

According to Hamilton Police, the individuals from Peel were “swarmed” by 20 to 30 young men from the Hamilton group, according to Det. Sgt. Thom.

“There were weapons used — knives, sticks, pipes and the mention of a Taser even being used as well”, Thom would explain to local media.

In light of the developments, Ward 8 Councillor John-Paul Danko issued the following statement via Twitter:

According to police, no one has been charged yet, but Thom noted no one in the Peel group was known to police. He couldn’t say the same for the members of the Hamilton group, which police are still trying to identify.

Hamilton Police have charged a 17-year-old in the death.
