Expansion Coming to Rolston’s Captain Cornelius Park

This article contains information about the installation of a new play structure at Captain Cornelius Park as well as plans for what is next in the Rolston Neighbourhood park.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

Captain Cornelius Park, located in Ward 8’s Rolston Neighbourhood, will be undergoing a facelift over the next few months, with a new play structure and accessible paths coming to the West Mountain park.

For more details, please continue reading below…

In July 2019, Councillor Danko introduced a motion to allocate $60,000 from the Ward 8 area-rating fund to enhance the play equipment at the park, located off of Mountbatten Drive near Westview Elementary School. The time has now come for the City to start on the project.

Excavation and placement of drainage layer and weeping tiles, installation of new playground equipment, and installation of new wood chip playground surfacing has started as of May 11, and is expected to run until June 30, 2020, weather permitting.

During the construction phase, certain areas of the park will
be closed  and residents and park users may experience some
inconveniences such as noise, dust, and restricted traffic/pedestrian movement.

The City will take every effort to do the work in a timely manner and to keep any inconvenience to a minimum. We ask for your patience during this construction period.

In addition to the new play structure, there is a planned expansion of Captain Cornelius Park. The addition of accessible trails, an amphitheatre and new community gardens can be viewed here.

The Ward 8 Office will continue to update residents about the ongoing construction taking place at Cornelius Park, and like everyone else we are excited to see Captain Cornelius Park turn into a truly accessible, family-friendly hub in Ward 8.
