For more details, please continue reading below…
In a typical year, the City of Hamilton would host a number of Community Compost Giveaway Events in the Spring and Fall in appreciation of residents participating in the City’s Leaf and Yard Waste Program.
Due to Covid-19, the Spring 2021 Event was cancelled.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday October 9th, 2021 at Turner Park from 7am to 11am, or while quantities last. Turner Park is located at 344 Rymal
Road E. .
Turner Park was chosen as it is a location which has enough space to ensure that all residents and staff will be physically distanced by a minimum of two metres. Compost is for residents only and not available for commercial businesses. Two people per vehicle will be allowed at the pile of compost at any one time and will have 15 minutes to load. Residents are required to bring their own shovels and containers.
How to use your fresh compost
- For vegetable gardens and flower beds, apply 2 cm (3/4″ in) of compost and work into the soil.
- For new beds add 2 – 5 cm (3/4″ to 2″ in) of compost and work into the soil to 12 cm (4 3/4″ in) in depth, plant and water accordingly.
- For topdressing apply 1 to 2 cm (1/2″ to 3/4″ in) of compost to the lawn and lightly rake the compost into the grass.
