Neighbour to Neighbour Centre, Hamilton Mountain’s only emergency food service and community support organization – which is located in Ward 8, hosted an event on September 14th which Councillor Danko had the privilege to attend.

Gather and Nourish took place at Neighbour to Neighbour Centre’s Hamilton Community Food Centre, which hosted an evening of entertainment and a special tasting prepared by Chef Ken LeFebour of Nellie James.
Neighbour to Neighbour Centre and its Community Food Centre are vital cogs for many on the Mountain, including Ward 8. It’s emergency food services help community members who may struggle with food insecurity.
In addition to its well-known food bank, Neighbour to Neighbour also offers Family Services to help those with financial insecurities including its Money Matters program and Utilities Supports. In addition, the Educational Services offered by Neighbour to Neighbour’s literacy program provides meaningful reading practice and creates opportunities for children to engage with books and a caring volunteer. 240 students in Grades 1-4 receive individual tutoring twice per week at various Mountain elementary schools.
Finally, the Hamilton Community Food Centre hosts Food Access Programs such as community dinners and lunches, as well as hosting a community market and cafe on Saturdays. They provide Food Skills Programs as well as Education and Engagement programs year round as well. It is where people can
share not only a nourishing meal, but a sense of belonging and solidarity.
