SCHEDULE & SERVICE UPDATES
Beginning Sunday September 3, 2023, the City of Hamilton’s Transit Division (HSR) is implementing service improvements related to year seven of its Ten-Year Local Transit Strategy, including a $0.25 fare increase that will go into effect on Friday, September 1, 2023.
The Ward 8 office, based on information provided by the City, originally indicated a 0.05 cent fair increase. The City has indicated that the wrong information was shared on its website.
The real HSR price changes, effective Sept. 1, are below:
- Cash fare will see a 25 cent increase, rising from $3.25 to $3.50.
- A single ride for adults with Presto will see a 10 cent increase, rising from $2.60 to $2.70.
- Adult monthly pass users will see a $4.40 increase, jumping from $114.40 to $118.80.
- A single ride for youth with Presto (ages 13 to 19) will increase by 10 cents, from $2.15 to $2.25.
- Youth monthly pass (ages 13 to 19) users get a $4.40 increase, jumping from $94.60 to $99.
- A single ride for seniors with Presto will increase by 10 cents, from $2.15 to $2.25.
- Senior monthly pass users get a $3 increase from $38.50 to $41.50.
- The senior annual pass is $30 more, from $385 to $415.
- Children 12 and under will remain free.
Changes for the fall 2023 schedule include:
- All-day Sunday express service on routes 10 B-Line and 20 A-Line which means express service will run 7 days a week on these two routes.
- Route 5 extending to King and Hwy 8 and Mount Albion Loop
- Improved connections to/from Stoney Creek by extending route 55 to Winona Crossing, and route 55A extended to the Stoney Creek Municipal Service Center.

TEN YEAR LOCAL TRANSIT STRATEGY SERVICE CHANGE HIGHLIGHTS
- Route 1 – Sunday’s Fiesta Mall tail is being retired. All Sunday trips will end at Eastgate Square. Customers who previously accessed service to Fiesta Mall on route 1 King will now be serviced by route 55/55A.
- Route 5 – To make it easier for customers who travel on this route, all destination signs and route numbers will be changing, and some ends of line in Stoney Creek are also changing.
- The former 5 (Stoney Creek) and 52 Head St. (Dundas) will be renamed to route 5 in both directions. The new route 5 service to Jones and King will be extended to King and Highway 8.
- The former 5A (Rosedale) and 5C (Ancaster) routes will be renamed to route 5A in both directions. There is no change to this portion of the route.
- The former 5E (Greenhill) and 52 Pirie/Governors (Dundas) will be renamed to route 5B in both directions. The new route 5B service to Quigley and Greenhill will be extended to Mount Albion Loop.
- Route 10 – Saturday frequency on the B-Line Express will be improved to every 10 minutes during the day and 20 minutes during the early evening. Sunday service will be introduced, running every 15 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening.
- Route 20 – The northbound A-Line Express route will be realigned from John St. to James St. The southbound route will also realign to remain on James St. and will no longer enter Frank A. Cooke Terminal. Sunday service will be introduced, running every 30 minutes in early morning, every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes in the evening.
- Route 41 – All westbound route 41 Mohawk trips will now go to/from Ancaster Meadowlands to improve access, frequency, and connectivity to other routes 5 Delaware, 16 Ancaster, and 43 Stone Church. The 41A tail will be retired. The neighbourhood surrounding the Brow Building will continue to be serviced by route 33 Sanatorium.
- Route 51 – University service will resume regular weekday service effective Tuesday, September 5, 2023. A University Special with a Saturday frequency will operate the last week of summer from Monday, August 28 to Saturday, September 2, 2023 for McMaster Orientation week.
- Route 55 – Service will be extended to Winona Crossing. Eastbound via Stoney Creek Municipal Service Centre, Highway 8, Glover Road, Barton St, Winona Road and Vince Mazza Way. Westbound via South Service Road, Fifty Road, Barton Street, Glover Road and Highway 8.
- Route 55A – Service will be extended to the Stoney Creek Municipal Service Centre. Eastbound via Barton Street, Glover Road, and Highway 8. Westbound via Highway 8, Glover Road and Barton Street.
- Routes 55 / 55A – Sunday service will run every 15 minutes in early morning and evening, and every 20 minutes in late evening.
- Route 58 – Stoney Creek Local is being retired. Customers will be able to take route 44 Rymal from Eastgate Square to King St. and transfer to route 5 Delaware. Route 5 provides improved daily frequency and connections from Stoney Creek to Winona Crossing via route 55.
