March 21: Rymal Road McDonald’s closes after employee tests positive for COVID-19

This article contains an update regarding a McDonald’s employee who tested positive for COVID-19 at the Upper James/Rymal Road location, with information from CBC News Hamilton as of March 21, 2020.

The public is being warned after an an employee at the McDonald’s located at 20 Rymal Road East (southeast corner of Upper James and Rymal Road) tested positive for COVID-19. The restaurant closed its doors as of March 21.

The employee who tested positive for COVID-19 recently worked on March 15, between the hours of 12pm to 8pm. Staff at the restaurant who may have been in contact with the employee were asked to self-isolate until further information was available to them.

In a statement emailed to CBC Hamilton,  a spokesperson for McDonald’s stated that”out of an abundance of caution, McDonald’s Canada made the decision to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitation by 3rd party cleaning experts” .

As of this writing, the restaurant remained closed to the public and Ward 8 residents who were at the restaurant on March 15th are recommended to contact Ontario Public Health with any questions they may have.
