Nominations are online for the 2021 Senior of the Year Awards

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

Seniors play such a crucial role in our community. From volunteering at schools or food banks, to giving invaluable experience as mentors, seniors can be found out and about giving back to Hamiltonians of all walks of life and all generations.

With that in mind, it’s time to nominate Hamilton’s Senior of the Year.

The Senior of the Year Awards recognizes seniors in Hamilton who have made outstanding voluntary contributions to enriching the social, cultural or civic life of our community.

There are nine award categories, including Senior of the Year (provided by the Ontario Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility), Lifetime Achievement, Innovation, Behind the Scenes, Diversity and Cultural, Leadership, Compassion and Companionship, Economic Leadership, and Healthy and Active Living. There is also a Youth Supporting Seniors Award recognizing dedicated youth volunteers ages 15-24.

Last year, Ward 8’s very own Penelope Petrie, who deservedly took home at Senior of the Year Leadership Award.

Last year, ceremonies were held virtually. With COVID uncertainty, an event to celebrate the achievements of the nominees and ward recipients is being planned for October 2021.

Nominations close May 28, 2021.
