Parking Standards Review Engagement

This post, from January 15, has details on the Parking Standards Review.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

Join City Transportation Staff to discuss changes proposed to the City’s parking standards for new development.

For more details, please continue reading below…

Parking standards, or parking requirements, are a tool within the City’s Zoning By-laws that regulate the parking to be provided when new developments are built.

Zoning By-laws set out requirements for the location, amount, size and design of parking spaces.

A review and update of the City’s Parking Standards was initiated in late 2022 to examine more progressive approaches for establishing parking requirements that take into consideration issues such as environmental impacts, cost and affordability, climate change, and the need to reduce auto dependency and associated impacts.

Parking standards also need to reflect different aspects of mobility including active transportation (i.e. walking or cycling), accessible parking, shared mobility (i.e. ridesharing), micro-mobility, and electric vehicle charging.

The City will be hosting two virtual public information meetings for residents to better understand the proposed changes, as well as to receive feedback. The first virtual meeting takes place on January 18th between 6-8 PM, followed by another meeting on January 23 between 6-8 PM. Registration is required.

For those unable to attend the meetings, a survey is available on the Engage Hamilton site for city staff to receive feedback.

For those interested, please visit the Engage Hamilton site for more details on the proposed changes, and to stay up to date.
