Update: PIC 2 for Upper Wellington Street EA

This post, originally from November 26th and updated December 10th, has information on an environmental assessment taking shape along Upper Wellington Street.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

The City of Hamilton is conducting a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study for Upper Wellington Street, between Stone Church Road East and Limeridge Road East – and it is looking for community feedback.

For more details, please continue reading below…

The upcoming Study aims to address both transportation and stormwater/drainage needs, identifying road improvements in the area to provide dedicated and safe infrastructure for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and vehicles.

This study is building on the recommendations of the South Mountain Area Transportation Master Plan (2000; reviewed in 2006) and City of Hamilton Transportation Master Plan (2007; reviewed and updated in 2018), which identified the need for road widening improvements for this corridor.

This study is being carried out as a Schedule ā€˜Cā€™ project under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2023).

How to Participate

A Public Information Centre (PIC) was held in June 2021 to introduce the Study and present the preferred solution.

Since then, the Study Team has updated the preferred solution and identified and evaluated road design options for this corridor. The City is now hosting a second PIC to present the preliminary preferred design for Upper Wellington Street and the associated evaluation process and are hoping for more community feedback.

The PIC 2 materials will be available from December 3 to 24 via www.hamilton.ca/upperwellingtonstEA. Residents are encouraged to view the information panels and provide comments.

Update:

City staff have made available the presentation which recently took place at Sackville Hill on December 10th. That document can be found below.
