Public Notice of Approved Water & Wastewater Rates for 2021

This article from January 8 has details on changes to residents’ water & wastewater charges for 2021.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

The City of Hamilton is advising water customers of changes to water and wastewater/storm rates that are effective as of January 1, 2021.

For more details, please continue reading below…

City Council has approved a combined 4.28% increase to the water and wastewater/storm rates. The average water and wastewater residential bill will increase roughly $2.68/month or $32.20/year.

Why do rates keep increasing?
The cost to distribute, collect and treat municipal water and wastewater throughout the City remains relatively constant, regardless of the volume actually consumed by all residents. The largest portion of your bill is used for capital renewal and expansion of the City’s overall water/wastewater/storm
infrastructure. Aging City infrastructure becomes more costly to operate, maintain and replace.

Residents of Ward 8 should receive a bill insert which will accompany your January water bill. Newspaper adds will also run in the Hamilton Spectator and the Mountain News.

In case you do miss it in the Mountain News or with your water bill, you can view the changes to water & wastewater/stormwater rates below.
