Railings finished at Captain Cornelius Park

This post, from July 18, has information on the newly completed railings at Captain Cornelius Park.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

The Ward 8 office is pleased to announce that the new railings along the concrete stairs connecting the Rolston Community Forest and Accessible Trail to Rolston Drive and Captain Cornelius Park is now complete.

For more details, please continue reading below…

The installation of the railings came after many neighbourhood residents requested safer access to the Community Forest trails. The railings will help those with mobility issues in the surrounding Rolston neighbourhood, as well as students at Westview and Westwood; and other residents or visitors.

In March of 2021, Councillor Danko put forward a motion, passed at Public Works, which allocated the cost of the stairs from the Ward 8 Capital Re-Investment Reserve, which returns Ward 8 taxpayer revenue to Ward specific projects.

With a portion of the existing stairs beside Westview Elementary School and located on Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) property, HWDSB Trustee Becky Buck was an invaluable help on this project, and worked closely with Councillor Danko to ensure a successful implementation of the project. Thank you again for your help Becky, as well to City staff for their hard work and devotion to the project.
