An Arena, Concert Hall and Convention Centre – What to Do About Hamilton’s Aging Sports and Entertainment Venues?

The City of Hamilton is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of our City’s aging sports and entertainment venues (First Ontario Centre, Hamilton Convention Centre and First Ontario Concert Hall).

Council’s direction to staff was to look at utilization of development opportunities to fund revitalization of these assets.

New Trespassing Bylaw Provides Better Enforcement Tools to Stop Hate In Hamilton

Queensdale Avenue Traffic Calming – Statement by Ward 8 Councillor John-Paul Danko

On Friday, August 16th, 2019 Hamilton City Council approved a motion by Ward 8 Councillor John-Paul Danko for the installation of three speed cushions on Queensdale Avenue at a cost not to exceed $16,8000, to be funded from the Ward 8 Area Capital Reserve Fund.

Landfill Garbage Diversion – A Cost Saving Opportunity for Ward 8 Taxpayers

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

This summer the City of Hamilton will be tendering it’s Municipal Waste Collection Contract for 2021 – 2028 (with possible extensions to 2030)

The previous term of Council provided direction that landfill garbage will continue to be picked up on a weekly basis.

However, there are significant cost saving opportunities for Ward 8 taxpayers if landfill garbage diversion strategies are considered – including bi-weekly landfill garbage collection and/or a change to clear landfill garbage bags.

Aberdeen Avenue – Update on Safety Measures and Statement by Ward 8 Councillor John-Paul Danko

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

On Monday, June 17th, 2019 the Director of Transportation Operations and Maintenance for the City of Hamilton brought forward a report to the Public Works Committee outlining staff recommendations for proposed safety measures on Aberdeen Avenue from Queen Street to Longwood Road.

These recommendations were approved by the Public Works Committee in a vote of 7 to 2.

Hamilton Moving Towards a Zero Plastic Waste Plan

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

On Monday, May 13th 2019 Councillor Nann put forward a motion for Hamilton to move towards a Zero Plastic Waste Plan. The City of Hamilton’s ability to accept specific plastics and other recyclables was significantly impacted by global markets, forcing formerly recyclable items like black plastics and polystyrene foam into landfill and the environment. Red Hill Valley Parkway Construction Update Spring 2019

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

 As you may know the Red Hill Valley Parkway is being resurfaced between the Queen Elizabeth Way and the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway.

In addition to new high-quality asphalt, the RHVP resurfacing project will bring additional safety enhancements to the parkway, including 10 km of new steel guiderails with reflectors, bright durable lane markings, rumble strips, and more.
