Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,
The Ward 8 Office is excited to announce that the Ward 8 Complete Streets survey is now live via Engage Hamilton portal.
This project is specifically focused on improving safety and operations along residential and collector streets in Ward 8 only – arterial roads will not be a part of this project since they are already under consideration as part of the ongoing Complete Livable Better Streets Design Manual Project.

In response to concerns the Ward 8 office has heard from residents, and in an effort to further the current progress being made through the City’s Strategic Road Safety Program and the Vision Zero Action Plan, the City has engaged a consultant team from WSP Canada Inc to create a report that offers local solutions that can:
- reduce residential traffic speeds
- enhance public spaces
- improve road safety for all users

The Ward 8 Office is encouraging residents who have concerns about speed in residential areas, potential enhancements to public spaces or road safety improvements in your area, to use visit the Ward 8 Complete Streets survey and use the mapping tool to better understand experiences in Ward 8.
The use of the mapping tool is fairly simple. Find your “problem spot” and use a pin to drop it at that location. Once the pin is dropped, you’ll be asked to expand on your answer (ie. what the problem is) to identify where the concerns are.
If you see a pin already placed at a spot you were going to identify as an issue, please continue to place another pin there. Having multiple pins on one location will help the team to determine the priorities for implementation within Ward 8. The mapping tool will be available for use between March 9 and April 9, 2021.
As stated earlier, this project is focused on Residential and Collector Roads in Ward 8 Only. Arterial Roads like Upper James, West 5th and Fennell Avenue will be considered in the City’s ongoing Complete, Livable, Better Streets Design Manual process.
The first phase will be for data collection, where the team wants to know where your concerns are as they relate to traffic safety in Ward 8. Once they have identified common areas of concern, the team will work extensively with community groups to co-design solutions to address the concerns.
The second phase will be experience based engagement where the team will be deploying interventions across Ward 8 based on the feedback collected during phase 1. They will track how those interventions impact operations, but will also want to hear from you about how you feel about the interventions – do they meet your needs, are they improving your experiences, and do they help to improve access and equity in Ward 8?
The results of the study will be presented in the final report, which will include design drawings, estimated costs and a suite of tools to assist in implementing broader traffic calming efforts across Ward 8.
Now is the time to have your voice heard. Please visit the Ward 8 Complete Streets survey to improve neighbourhood road safety across Ward 8.
