Hello Ward 8 Neighbours!
This weekend Ward 8 will be hosting two Jane’s Walk tours as part of a City wide festival of free, citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs.
This year there will be walks at both Auchmar and Sam Lawrence Park in Ward 8.
SAM LAWRENCE PARK: REFLECTING ON THE PAST, EXAMINING THE PRESENT, IMAGINING THE FUTURE
Saturday May 4, 1:30pm to 3:00pm
Meeting Location: West Parking Lot (opposite Highcliffe Avenue)
Approximate Walk Length: 1.5 hours
Sam Lawrence Park is one of Hamilton’s signature parks, known for its spectacular views. Please join us as we explore the park’s storied history, the issues/challenges currently affecting the site, and how the park may better-serve Hamiltonians in the years to come
AUCHMAR ESTATE: THE HIDDEN JEWEL ON THE HAMILTON MOUNTAIN
Saturday May 4th at 11 am and Sunday May 5th at 2 pm
Walk with Diane Dent, Chair Friends of Auchmar, and Bill King, author Buchanan of Auchmar. Discuss: Why are the Honourable Isaac Buchanan and the Auchmar Estate important? Who was the Honourable Isaac Buchanan? Why must the entire Auchmar estate remain in public ownership? Date built, unique heritage features that make Auchmar one of the few intact Victorian estates remaining, architectural features of the manor house, dovecote, coach house, gatehouse lodge, walled gardens, apple orchard, the wood lot, cultural landscape, artifacts discovered, gates to former stable rebuilt (provincial order to comply).
Find Diane and Bill at the Front Entrance in Yellow Auchmar T-shirts holding a sign Auchmar Walking Tour (20-30 minute tour of the grounds).
