Ward 8 Tree Giveaway

This article, from April 20, has updated information on the Ward 8 free tree giveaway – available until supplies last.

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

The Ward 8 office is happy to report that 300 trees are available; on a first come, first served basis, to residents who want to both beautify their household – and help the environment.

For more details, please continue reading below…

For those who have contacted our office in recent weeks following our post indicating that 200 trees would be available for free to residents, we’re happy to report that details have been finalized and that the City will be accepting submissions for trees from April 19 to May 12, 2021.

The Councillors for Wards 5 and 8 will be giving 300 trees to residents in their wards to improve Hamilton’s overall air quality, reduce emissions and increase property value.

The trees must be planted on private property, preferably at the side or back of your home.

Ward 8 residents can sign up for their tree by submitting the free tree form, which can be found here: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-property-and-development/property-gardens-trees/free-tree-giveaway-wards-5-8

This program will be offering four species of trees (which you can see below) and are native to Ontario. For those interested in the free tree program, but who may be hesitant due to lack of experience or knowhow, don’t worry: the City has helpful tree and planting information related to these specimens here.

As mentioned, trees will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Trees will be delivered to the address provided on the submission form at the end of May. It will be the resident’s responsibility to facilitate the planting.
