Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,
We’ve received word from the folks at Public Works about some exciting developments relating to William Connell Park, in addition to some updates regarding Captain Cornelius Park from Children’s Services and Neighbourhood Development.
For more details, please continue reading below…
Our first update concerns William Connell Park City-Wide Park. City-wide parks are meant to appeal to those with widely varying needs and interests, and service residents and visitors from Hamilton and surrounding areas.
As of July 31, the spray pad, the playground adjacent to the spray pad and the multi-use court are open for public use at William Connell. The City’s spray pad website has been updated to reflect that.
In addition, the loop path around the storm pond has been open to the public since July 1 and the tennis court nets will be installed by August 7, meaning it’s time to break out those rackets.
William Connell Park to be New Home of Hamilton Sparta Soccer Club
As for Captain Cornelius Park in the Rolston neighbourhood, things are progressing well. Back in May, the Ward 8 office provided details about the planned expansion of the park, as well as the addition of accessible trails, an amphitheatre and new community gardens in the neighbouring woodlands.
We can report that the pathways and entry archways are in place, and that construction continues on other parts of the park. By all accounts, the project is on schedule and the playground should be open this fall.
