Due to safety concerns related to the darkness of the area, the Dundurn stairs have been closed this past week due to a recent theft.

On Sunday, October 1st, wires required for the lights along the Dundurn stairs (Beckett Drive to Dundurn Street) to operate were removed by unknown individuals. Staff immediately notified Hamilton Police of this incident.
With safety in mind, this past Monday, October 2nd, staff took the decision to close the stairs at dusk, while reopening them each day at dawn. Signage has been posted by Parks staff indicating the closure.
At this time, the situation is being reviewed and repair work has been prioritized. There is no timeframe for the lights to be repair as the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Costs have also not been established yet.
