McMaster Med Students Request Hamilton Endorse Managed Opioid Programs

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

Today I had the pleasure of meeting with four McMaster University medical students advocating for the City of Hamilton to support the implementation of managed opioid programs to help save lives in our community.

For more details, please continue reading below.

The students are requesting that the City write to the Honourable Christine Elliott, Ontario Minister of Health for the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in support of injectable opioid agonist therapy medications to make sure that managed opioid medications are universally accessible to all Ontarians who could benefit.

Following a very informative discussion about their recommendation and hearing about some of their first hand experience treating Hamilton residents struggling with opioid addiction, I agreed to raise this issue with Hamilton’s Medical Officer of Health.
