On April 6 – 7, 2019 in Hamilton, Ontario. McMaster University hosted one of Canada’s premier science, technology and engineering competitions for high school students. More than 1,000 students, volunteers, parents and sponsors came to campus for the FIRST Robotics Canada District Competition. The competition for high school students pitted the incredible young minds in a qualifying match to design and build robots to solve a problem.

Teams from various cities participated in groups of 2-3 team members. Each member had their own cool robot. The excited audience witnessed young people realizing their dreams of becoming science and technology heroes.

Orchard Park Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board’s robotic team supports new vision research and evidence-based practices. The Research and Analytics Department includes expertise in data science, information privacy and applied research.

John-Paul Danko, Hamilton City Councillor for Ward 8 – West Central Mountain, was pleased to support and encourage the young and smart students in our community.

This event was a combination of the excitement of sport with the rigours of science and technology. High school students showcased their design and engineering skills and competed in Canada’s largest high school robotics competition.

The teams raised funds by their own, and designed a team brand, honed teamwork skills, and built and programmed robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. This was free public event to attend.
