Hamilton Applies for $311M in Grants for City Culture, Parks and Recreation (Including $35M Towards Ward 8 Projects)

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

On October 16, 2019 Hamilton City Council agreed to apply for $311M in funding for City of Hamilton cultural assets, parks and recreation through the Canada Infrastructure Program – Community, Culture and Recreation Stream Intake Submission.

This application includes $35M in funding dedicated to Ward 8 projects.

For more details, please continue reading below.

The Canada Infrastructure Program – Community, Culture and Recreation Stream Intake Submission is a joint federal and provincial grant program.

The funding will go towards investing in community, culture and recreational projects that will help deliver vital services for communities, foster greater social inclusion and improve the quality of life for residents across the province.

The grant program is funded by the federal government (40% funding partner), Ontario government (33.3% funding partner) along with eligible partners such as municipalities (26.7% funding partner).

As the Ward 8 Councillor, I have worked closely with our City of Hamilton staff to make sure that qualifying Ward 8 projects in need of funding were included prominently on the list.

Key projects for Ward 8 include the following:

  • Auchmar Coach House Restoration $9.5M
  • Sam Lawrence Park – Master Plan Capital Investment $14.5M
  • Mountain Brow Multi-use Trail $5.3M
  • Winter Tobogganing & Skating Amenities at William Connell Park $5.7M
  • Total Potential Ward 8 Investment $35M

Ultimately projects will be selected by the provincial and federal governments for funding and it is not anticipated that all projects submitted will be successful.

However, I am confident that we will see a substantial investment in Ward 8.
