Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,
A friendly reminder that there will be curbside yard waste collection changes affecting residents starting the week of December 6, meaning next week’s waste collection will be the last until the week of February 28, 2022.
For more details, please continue reading below…
As we brought to Ward 8’s attention on October 7, December 6, 2021 and through the winter season, the City of Hamilton will no longer collect yard waste curbside.
Although some may be caught off-guard by the news, residents can still bring their yard waste collection to any Community Recycling Centre free of charge.
Although the December date is fast approaching and many trees have only recently let go of their leaves because of the weird weather, residents can also use leaves as bed coverage for flower and vegetable gardens – meaning a top layer of leaves will help keep your soil from completely freezing.
Leaves are also a great addition to compost bins, as earthworms and other micro-orgasms will break down the leaves into organic matter. If you choose to leave the leaves on your lawn, earthworms will again break them down into organic matter which will benefit your lawn next spring.
