Hamilton Climate Change and Municipal Leadership Event November 4th

As part of a commitment to lead the fight against Climate Change, Councillors from Wards 1, 2, 3 & 8 will host Dianne Saxe, International Lawyer and former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario to speak about best practices in Canadian cities and the steps municipalities must take in order to deal with the climate emergency.

A panel discussion with Dr. Saxe, Councillors Wilson, Nann, Danko, Farr, and Environment Hamilton on the theme of the responsibility and scope of municipal leadership in a climate emergency will follow.

Speed Cushions added To Queensdale Avenue to Slow Down Speeders in Ward 8

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

Earlier this year Hamilton City Council approved a motion by Ward 8 Councillor John-Paul Danko for the installation of three speed cushions on Queensdale Avenue.

We are happy to report that these speed cushions have now been installed.

New Warehouse and Industrial Development at Hamilton Airport

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

This morning Mayor Fred Eisenberger, Councillor Brenda Johnson and myself joined Panattoni International and representatives of the City of Hamilton Planning and Economic Development team and John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport for the groundbreaking of the first phase of a new 80 acre development with up to 1.6 million square feet of warehouse and industrial space in the Airport Employment Growth District (AEGD).

Hamilton Board of Health Endorses Streamlining of Vaccine Records

Hamilton Applies for $311M in Grants for City Culture, Parks and Recreation (Including $35M Towards Ward 8 Projects)

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

On October 16, 2019 Hamilton City Council agreed to apply for $311M in funding for City of Hamilton cultural assets, parks and recreation through the Canada Infrastructure Program – Community, Culture and Recreation Stream Intake Submission.

This application includes $35M in funding dedicated to Ward 8 projects.

Climate Change is Costing City of Hamilton Taxpayers – Are Carbon Offset Revenue Sources Available for Ontario Municipalities?

Right now climate change mitigation is costing City of Hamilton taxpayers tens of millions of dollars every year – with no way to predict what our City’s overall exposure may be in the future.

Further, the City of Hamilton has declared a Climate Emergency with a mandate to achieve net-zero carbon emissions before 2050. Reaching this goal will require investment in technology and systems that help Hamilton transition to a net-zero carbon economy.

Hamilton taxpayers should not have to foot the bill to mitigate and address the impacts of climate change – these costs should be borne by the carbon industry and those who are generating wealth from the burning of fossil fuels.

$8.5 Million Application for A-Line Transit Improvements on Upper James to Waterfront

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

On October 2nd, 2019 the General Issues Committee of Hamilton City Council agreed to apply for $8.5 million dollars in funding towards A-Line transit improvements along the Upper James / James Street corridor between Hamilton International Airport and the waterfront.

The funding is part of an application for $511 million dollars in dedicated transit investments for the City of Hamilton as part of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – Public Transit Stream.

Ward 8 Councillor John-Paul Danko Moves for New Development Parking to Include Electric Vehicle Chargers

Hello, Ward 8 Neighbours!

On October 1st, 2019 Planning Committee endorsed a motion by Ward 8 Councillor John-Paul Danko to investigate requiring developers to install electric vehicle charging stations as a condition of all new development approvals.

This motion is action resulting from Hamilton’s declaration of a Climate Emergency and goal of transitioning to a zero carbon economy by 2050.
