New Life for the Historic Balfour Estate

One of Hamilton’s oldest historical structures looks to finally have some new life (and investment) breathed into it as the picturesque Balfour Estate has potentially found a new tenant.

Pending approval by the Ontario Heritage Trust (OHT), Cardus will lease the property from the City after Council recently voted in favour of moving forward pending the OHT’s approval for “intensity of use” and “adaptive reuse” plans.

Hamilton Transportation Task Force Update

Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney recently announced the naming of the Hamilton Transportation Task Force.

The Task Force will provide recommendations to the government on how the $1 billion dollars originally slated for LRT development will be used after the cancellation of the project by Minister Mulroney.

Redevelopment Proposals Presented for Downtown Arena

Council had its first opportunity to view two proposals for a re-imagined downtown arena, after deciding  to pass on spending $100 million dollars on a 6,000 seat mountain arena.

The two proposals, submitted by Vrancor Group and Hamilton Urban Precinct Entertainment Group were presented to council at its February 5 General Issues Committee meeting.

$400 Million Investment into Hamilton’s Digital Infrastructure

Hello Ward 8 Neighbours,

The largest digital investment in the City of Hamilton’s history by Bell Canada will bring with it expanded broadband access in urban and rural areas of the city.

Bell announced on January 23 that the company will invest $400 million dollars over a period of 5 years, including the installation of fibre network connections in 200,000 homes and businesses throughout the city, including business parks and commercial areas.
